Aluminum

Graphite and carbon for aluminum: ESGRAF advises on material selection and application support across Mexico and the Americas.

[ Industry description ]

Crucibles, ingot molds, lances, and lubricants for aluminum melting and extrusion.

Aluminum processes need materials that withstand molten metal, thermal cycling, and abrasive contact without contaminating the bath. ESGRAF recommends graphite and carbon grades for melting, casting, degassing, and extrusion across Mexico and the Americas.

We select grade and geometry based on working temperature, atmosphere, and expected part life.

Applications with ESGRAF

In primary and secondary aluminum, graphite shows up wherever tooling meets liquid metal or hot surfaces:

  • Crucibles and ingot molds for melting, holding, and pouring.
  • Lances and tubes for degassing and flux injection.
  • Molds and launders in contact with molten aluminum.
  • Die and piston lubrication in extrusion, where conventional oil cannot hold temperature.

Each application balances purity, density, thermal shock resistance, and machinability differently. The goal is less bath contamination, fewer unplanned stops, and fewer marks on the product.

Recommended product families

The exact family depends on the alloy, cycle, and whether the part is a consumable or a long-life tool. ESGRAF compares options against inventory and CNC capacity.

Frequently asked questions

What graphite is used in aluminum foundry?

It depends on the part and cycle. Crucibles and ingot molds usually prioritize thermal shock resistance and metal compatibility; lances and tubes prioritize shape, controlled porosity, and life under gas flow. An ESGRAF specialist reviews temperature, atmosphere, and geometry before recommending a grade.

Does graphite contaminate the aluminum bath?

There can be risk if the grade or surface finish is wrong for the process. That is why purity, density, and surface condition are evaluated with the plant cycle. Correct selection reduces contamination and premature wear.

Do you make custom crucibles and lances?

Yes. ESGRAF supplies standard shapes when stock exists and machines parts from drawings (dimensions, holes, wall thickness, and tolerances). For a quote, share metal, temperature, and a drawing or measured references.

Do you cover lubrication in aluminum extrusion?

Yes. On dies, pistons, and hot surfaces we use dry lubricants or graphite lubricating paints when oil or grease cannot hold temperature. Formulation follows application method and metal contact.

How do I request a quote for a plant in Mexico?

Send alloy, operating temperature, geometry or drawing, quantity, and usage frequency. Start at quote or contact for a technical review.
