Open-gear lubrication
Open-gear and loaded-coupling lubrication
Also known as: Graphite lubricant for open gears · Open crown and pinion lubrication · Anti-friction for compressed couplings · Mining and cement gear lubricant
Graphite film for open gears and loaded couplings.
[ Technical summary ]
An open gear runs with dust, moisture, and load, and has no sump to hold oil. Grease gets dirty and becomes abrasive. Graphite forms a film that stays on the tooth or coupling. Enclosed shafts and the fifth wheel are separate uses. Viscosity or format (grease, oil, pad) is chosen by maintenance.
Each process needs a specific product and application method. ESGRAF selects the solution according to temperature, material, load, cycle, and application method.
[ Problem it solves ]
Lubricate open gears and loaded couplings without grease that turns into abrasive paste.
Processes
- Open-gear drive
- Loaded-coupling lubrication
Operating conditions
- Dust, moisture, or abrasion
- High load without a sump
When it is suitable
- The open gear runs with dust or moisture
- Grease gets dirty and wears the tooth
- The coupling is hard to reach
When it may not be suitable
- The gearbox is enclosed and specifies a sump oil
- The gear manufacturer forbids solid lubricants
- The surface tolerates no black residue and there will be no cleaning stage
Process challenges
- Lubricant contamination with dust
- Tooth wear
- Limited access to the point
Advantages
- Film that stays without a sump
- Less abrasive paste than dirty grease
- Useful on hard-to-reach couplings
Limitations
- Does not replace oil in an enclosed gearbox
- May stain and drip depending on format
- Reapplication follows inspection
