Lubrication applications

Marine hardware anti-corrosion lubrication

Graphite lubrication of hardware, brakes, and components exposed to moisture or salinity in marine service.

Lubrication of parts exposed to moisture or salinity

Also known as: Graphite lubricant for marine environments · Anti-corrosion lubrication of brakes and hardware · Anti-friction for parts in salinity · Lubricant for moisture-exposed hardware

Graphite film for marine hardware exposed to moisture or salinity.

[ Technical summary ]

In marine service, hardware sees moisture and salinity. Grease washes off or traps salts and stops protecting the contact. A graphite film lubricates and reduces bare metal exposure. This record covers marine hardware; ports and railway are separate uses. It does not replace a paint anti-corrosion coating when the equipment standard requires one.

Each process needs a specific product and application method. ESGRAF selects the solution according to temperature, material, load, cycle, and application method.

[ Problem it solves ]

Lubricate marine hardware exposed to moisture or salinity without grease that washes off or traps salts.

Processes

  • Marine-hardware maintenance
  • Lubrication of contacts exposed to salts

Operating conditions

  • Moisture and salinity
  • Outdoor hardware

When it is suitable

  • Grease washes off or traps salts
  • Hardware seizes with corrosion and dirt
  • The contact must stay lubricated outdoors

When it may not be suitable

  • The equipment standard requires a different anti-corrosion coating
  • There is advanced corrosion that requires repair
  • The surface tolerates no black residue and there will be no cleaning stage

Process challenges

  • Lubricant wash-off
  • Salts in the contact
  • Seizing from corrosion

Advantages

  • Film that does not wash off like a light oil
  • Reduces bare metal in the contact
  • Useful on outdoor hardware

Limitations

  • Does not replace an anti-corrosion paint when the standard requires one
  • Does not repair advanced corrosion
  • Reapplication follows inspection
