## Structural insulation

**Rigid felt** is a rigid carbon/graphite fiber insulation supplied as boards and blocks for structural thermal insulation inside high-temperature furnaces. Because it is rigid rather than flexible, it holds its own shape and can be assembled into hot-zone elements instead of being wrapped or draped like soft felt.

Two properties drive its use. Low thermal conductivity under vacuum keeps heat inside the hot zone, and resistance to thermal shock lets the material take repeated heating and cooling cycles.
